Back on Aug. 3, I held my Summer/Back-to-School Thrifting Tour in Birmingham, Alabama. It was my second tour, and I got to take 44 awesome thrift shoppers to some of the metro area’s best-known second hand stores and consignment shops. My sisters and my Dad came along, too, and I was so glad they did!

That day, we visited America’s Thrift Store in Alabaster and the one in Center Point. We also stopped by Silver Lining Consignment Boutique in Hoover, and Collage Designer Consignment in Vestavia and in Homewood. In addition to the clothing stores, we shopped at 2nd and Charles, a store that buys and sells used books.

The group found preloved, designer clothing and accessories, including handbags, shoes and belts. And they enjoyed special discounts that the stores offered to our tour group for the day.

One of the main questions that people asked me was whether something was a good buy or not. I looked over each item carefully to make sure it was in good shape. And using my knowledge of designer clothing and high-end brands, I was able to determine the quality of the item and whether the asking price was a good deal.

Although I was busy, I managed to buy a few things for myself. I found a linen pantsuit by Bryn Walker at one store for just $25. The suit would normally retail for about $200.

I almost turned it down when I saw a small spot in the fabric around the neckline. But the price was great. You had to look hard to see the spot, and I knew that I could cover it with just the right necklace. So, I ended up buying the suit. It was a great deal!

I found a gorgeous, $2,500, off-white pantsuit by St. John that was on sale at Collage for just $179.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t in my size. I was going to buy it for my mom, but it wasn’t in her size either. But it was a beautiful suit.

One lady on the tour found a blouse by Coldwater Creek for just $1.99!

At Silver Lining Boutique, there were selling pretty necklaces, bracelets and earrings for $2 a piece.

And take of look at this awesome black dress by the designer Paco Rabanne from Paris.
