Since the presidential race is off and running, now would be a good time to start collecting political memorabilia.

There are a lot of people who enjoy collecting items like political campaign buttons, banners, bumper stickers, t-shirts, hats and other items from the past. That's because they represent history and some of our nation's most important events.

Vintage jugate pins from a 19th or early 20th century presidential race can be worth more than $400. A Reagan-Bush pin, on the other hand, is worth less than $10, but the pin’s value will continue to climb over time. So, if you have one, it will be worth keeping to pass down to your children.

Newspapers and newspaper clippings, however, will be worth more if they're kept in good condition. Store them away from sunlight in acid free newspaper sleeves that you can buy online. Refold newspapers back to the original fold, and always make sure your hands are clean when you touch them.

Political memorabilia is mass produced, so only the rarest of pieces are worth lot of money. To find out what collectors are paying for political memorabilia, check out price guides like Kovels or check on Ebay.

What about you? Do you collect political memorabilia?
