I heart hats. I really do.

I went thrift shopping for hats at the Goodwill Thrift Store in Destin, Florida, recently, and I found some awesome vintage hats.

I didn’t intend to buy a hat while I was destination thrift shopping in Destin, but Goodwill was selling spring hats for just $7.49 each. That was a deal I couldn’t pass up.

By the time I got to Goodwill that Monday afternoon there weren’t many hats left on the shelves. The clerk said customers had snapped up most of them over the weekend. I managed, however, to buy a few good hats.

See this green hat with the silk flowers? This one caught my eye the minute I walked into the store.

And here’s a vintage hat from the 1940s. It has baby’s breath flowers across the band, which I think is just lovely. This thrifted hat would look perfect with a blue, tailored suit.

Here’s another retro hat that caught my attention. It’s a hat from the 1920s. The flowers on top are made of silk. The style has inspired me to make a crocheted version of this cap.

Now, check out this classic, black hat. I love the hat’s wide brim. If you wore this hat with a pair of Jackie O-style sunglasses, you would look so chic and refined

I’m thinking about wrapping one of my vintage scarves around the crown or attaching a brooch to give the hat more character.

I also bought this beaded hat. It was made in the 1950s.

Isn’t it pretty? Whenever I put on a vintage hat like this, I try to imagine what the woman who wore it back in the day was like. Where did she wear this hat? What was her story?

OK, now I have to show you this next hat. I also bought it while I was thrift shopping in Destin. My Dad was with me, and when he saw me trying on this hat, he laughed and said it was too little for my head. He and I had a good laugh over this hat!

I liked the hat. I thought it was cute and charming. Dad wasn’t so sure.

I decided not to buy it that day, but that hat stayed on my mind.  So the next day, I went back to the Goodwill store and bought it.

I love retro-style hats. I like modern caps, too. Women today don’t wear hats as much as they used to, and I think that’s a shame.

What about you? Do you wear hats?
